Space mimics are aberrations that can change thier shape and pigmentation of thier skin. The natural skin of a space mimic is pitch black, with tiny specks of twinkling light, imitating a space background. They have two eyes, which cannot be seen under its think eyelids when closed. In addition they have darkvision of 90 feet.
Space mimics speak common, as well as neogi and elven. It is not uncommon to find space mimics that know how to speak many more languages then this. The list of languages include by limited to the following: beholder, goblin, illithid, mercane, and rastipede,
Combat A space mimic often surprises the unsuspecting adventurer, lashing out with a heavy pseudopod much like its non-spellcasting brethren. It will make heavy use of trickery, which includes illusion spells to avoid fighting more than one opponent at a time. Above all else it will do what it takes to preserve its life.
Adhesive (Ex): A space mimic exudes a thick slime that acts as a powerful adhesive, holding fast any creatures or items touching it. An adhesive-covered mimic automatically grapples any creature it hits with its slam attack. Opponents so grappled cannot get free while the mimic is alive without removing the adhesive first. A space mimic makes one automatic slam attack each round against any creature stuck to it. A weapon that strikes an adhesive-coated space mimic is also stuck fast unless the wielder succeeds at a Reflex save (DC 17). A successful Strength check (DC 17) is needed to pry it off. Strong alcohol dissolves the adhesive. A pint of wine or a similar liquid weakens it, but the space mimic still has a +4 bonus to grapple checks. A mimic can dissolve its adhesive at will, and the substance breaks down 5 rounds after the creature dies.
Mimic Shape (Ex): A space mimic can assume the general shape of any object that fills roughly 150 cubic feet (5 feet by 5 feet by 6 feet), such as a massive ornate chest, a wizard's desk with books and scrolls, or a wide door frame. The creature cannot substantially alter its size, though. A mimic’s body is hard and has a rough texture, no matter what appearance it might present. Anyone who examines the mimic can detect the ruse with a successful Spot check opposed by the mimic’s Disguise check. Of course, by this time it is generally far too late.
Character Class: Space mimics advance in a character class, most are either 4th level wizards or 4th level sorcerers (as the above hit dice and stats indicate). When pursuing sorcerer or wizard, the space mimic perfers illusion spells over other forms of magic. A dungeon master can always assigned other classes.
In the Spheres The space mimic can needs only one medium sized creature to feed upon once every 4 months. If no food can be found it can go dormant for up to three years, after which time it will die unless it feeds.
Space mimics enjoy both magic and knowledge. They will trade books already read for food or more reading material or magic.
