The Mangler -- The White Spiral
The Mangler
This object is more rumor than substance. Supposedly, it is a miles long collection of metallic cylinders, spikes, and spheres, arranged in a completely chaotic manner. Legend has it the Mangler follows a highly erratic orbit around the Maw, independant of any cluster, sometimes chnaging course. Some claim it a spacecraft of some sort, others maintain it is from another plane or the legacy of some bizarre magical experiment. Nobody knows if the Mangler is inhabited or not; legend claims that no vessel has ever managed to land on its surface - supposedly vessels that approach within a few miles of the Mangler are subject to attack with massive energy discharges and immense metallic `spears'.
Officially, the Invaders deem the Mangler a mere fable. Many of them, though, secretly regard the Mangler as a omen of ill luck. Aside from a few tenative initial inquiries and divinations, the Invaders have never made a serious effort to investigate the Mangler.
The White Spiral
This is a faintly glowing whitish nebula, some thousand odd miles across, orbiting just inside the sphere wall. Small chunks of ice and other debrie are found in its confines, none more than a few hundred yards across. Wildspace creatures such as sluk, starfly plants, gullions, scaver, zards, zurchin, ect are common here. Space and time seem oddly distorted within the nebula; what seems like a passage of a mere hour or two to a crew may be two or three days to an outside observer; furthermore, even carefull navigators and helmsmen will often find their vessels trajectories differing by as much as 30% from what they should be upon exiting. Only the priests of the Voidwalker seem immune to the nebula's effects.
Generally, the Invaders avoid the White Spiral.
