The Sun of Lostspace is dying; its luminosity and surface temperature are barely half of what they were a millenia ago and in another few centuries (if even that long), it will be nothing but a cinder. Many of the spheres inhabitants believe that the Suns dimness is not natural, but a result of the devastating war which rocked the system a millenia ago. Some believe, that given the right spell, pact, or device, it may be possible to restore the sun to its former brightness.
The Suns brightness varies - at times its luminosity will increase as much as a third or drop by more than half. Typically, these periods of brightness or darkness are spaced four to six months apart, and last anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks. These variations are not natural: rather they are the product of an intense, ongoing battle between creatures of elemental fire on the one hand seeking to rekindle the Suns flames, and demonic tanar'ri on the other, who are trying to extinguish or at least greatly reduce the suns fires.
